Extra Pension For 80+ Central Employees: Govt Issues New Guidelines!

Central Government Pension : According to a notification of the Department of Pensioners’ Welfare, additional pension or compassionate allowance will be paid from the first of the month following the month of the prescribed age limit being attained by a pensioner.

Central Government Pension : In a recent notification issued by the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare (DoPPW) of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions, additional pensionary benefits, often referred to as compassionate allowance, are given to central government pensioners who are aged 80 years and above. 

The Department of Pension and Pensioner’s Welfare has also provided updated guidelines to make it easier for eligible retirees to access these complementary benefits. These provisions seek to simplify and expedite the payment of extra allowances to pensioners of this age group.

Now In Pension 

Sub-rule 6 of rule 44 of the CCS (Pension) Rules, 2021, which supersedes the earlier rule 49(2-A) of the CCS (Pension) Rules, 1972, grants pensioners, who are 80 years and above, compassionate allowance in addition to the benefits under the existing pension scheme.

The New Guideline Initiated By The Centre Is 

The guideline states that citizens in the age group of 80-85 years are entitled to 20 percent of the basic pension or compassionate allowance; citizens in the age group of 85-90 years will receive 30 percent. Citizens aged 90-95 years will be granted 40 percent of the basic pension or compassionate allowance, and those aged 95-100 years will receive 50 percent. Citizens aged 100 years and above shall receive 100 percent of the basic pension or compassionate allowance.

The notification states, “For instance, the pensioners born on 20th August 1942 shall be eligible for additional pension at the rate of twenty percent of the basic pension with effect from 01.08.2022. Pensioners born on 01.08.1942 shall also become eligible for additional pension at the rate of twenty percent of basic pension from 01.08.2022.”

The Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare also notified that the additional pension or compassionate allowance will take effect from the first day of the month following the month in which the pensioner attains the prescribed age.

This Extra Pension Pay Will Help Pensioners Cope With The Increasing Cost Of Living As One Grows Older 

For the better interest of all deserving pensioners regarding benefits without delays, all departments and banks concerning the pension disbursement have been directed to disseminate the information regarding the notification.
