Central government employees have been updated about the formation of the 8th Pay Commission in January, which was highly awaited. Confirming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the setting up of the commission, Ashwini Vaishnav, Union Minister, made this announcement just before the Union Budget 2025-26. The salary hike figures under the new pay commission will now be known.
Basic Salary From The Commission Is Likely To Hike Between 40-50% .
The 8th Pay Commission is likely to formulate a pay and pension increase on a larger scale. Experts believe that the fitment factor could range from 2.28 to 2.86 and it would mean an increase of 40-50 percent in the basic salary. This is because the fitment factor will directly affect how the basic salary and pension of the central government employees will be calculated.

The range of fitment factor between 2.6 and 2.85 can be 25-30% rise in basic pay. Besides, the pension may also rise to the same percentage. According to this calculation, income for an employee who is presently entitled to a basic salary of Rs 20,000 may lie in the range of Rs 46,600 to Rs 57,200. Besides this, the minimum basic salary is to exceed Rs 40,000 with revised allowances, allowances, and performance-based pay.
